The Black Hills Pioneer is the oldest business in West River Dakota Territory, and this year marks our 140th year telling the story of the Black Hills. Over time our newspaper has taken over the title of numerous other publications and we would like to share some of the more compelling stories from all of those early editions.
Every Saturday we will publish a story from our archives, starting with 1900 and back through 1876. These stories are re-printed exactly as they were first published, leaving in place the historic typos, grammar, style, and terminology — politically correct or otherwise. It is our belief that history is sacrosanct and should never be edited to reflect the societal norms of the present.
We hope you enjoy this historic journey. It is an honor and a privilege to be a trusted permanent record keeper of the Black Hills community; we look forward to the next 140 years of history in the making in the magnificent Black Hills.
