SPEARFISH — The Spearfish Sasquatch got off to a sluggish start Tuesday night against Hastings in Spearfish, 7-4 in the first game of a six-game homestand.
“We’re not hitting. It’s kind of been the same thing for a little over week now. We are not hitting early, we are not hitting, timely hitting is not there,” said Adam Core, the Sasquatch head coach. “I thought the bullpen was a little bit better today. Wensley didn’t have his best stuff, but he kept it close, and Austin Skelhorn pitched good and that was nice to see, but we just have to hit.”
Spearfish scored a run on a single by Joe Yorke, that scored Chad Call, to give the Sasquatch a 1-0 lead after one inning.
Hastings scored two runs in the top of the third, to give the Sodbusters the lead 2-1.
Z Westley hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2-2.
Hastings added three runs in the fifth, a run in the sixth, and a run in the eighth to increase their lead to 7-2.
In the bottom of the eighth Barron Holtz scored on an error and Brent Richey would score to pull the Sasquatch within three runs, 7-4.
Hastings held on to win by that same score, 7-4.
Joe Yorke had three hits and drove in a run for the Sasquatch.
Zach Filos pitching his final game for the Sasquatch, took the loss. He pitched five innings and gave up five runs on six hits, he walked three, and struck out five.
Logan Wensley, Austin Skelhorn , and L Hewitt came on in relief for Spearfish.
