BELLE FOURCHE — The Black Hills Roundup finished its second PRCA Rodeo performance Thursday afternoon at the Black Hills Roundup Grounds in Belle Fourche.

A special event preceded Wednesday’s first performance. Stock contractor Hank Franzen rode into the arena on horseback while accompanying a riderless horse. This was in memory of Chad Nicholson, the longtime Black Hills Roundup voice who lost his life in a vehicle accident this spring while helping a friend.

Three South Dakota riders are leading their respective events.

Hereford’s JJ Elshere collected 90 points on the saddle bronc named Rich n Fancy to move into the top spot. Buffalo’s Jessica Routier turned in a 17.19-second time in barrel racing, and Timber Lake’s Ardie Maier scored 83 points on his bull ride.

The first two performances also included Dennis Halstead, who is serving as entertainer and rodeo clown. Amanda Payne, representing the One-Armed Bandit & Company, entertained the crowd on those two days.

Dana Bowman parachuted onto the grounds before each performance.

A brief, heavy rainshower moved into the area minutes after Thursday’s performance came to a close.
