L-D volleyball season ends

HILL CITY — Lead-Deadwood dropped a three-games-to-zero decision to Hill City as the Region 8A volleyball tournament held its second round of matches Thursday night. Scores were 25-16, 25-7, and 25-13 as the Golddiggers’ season came to an end.

“We struggled in all aspects and did not put it all together,” Lead-Deadwood head coach Kim Hansen said. 

“We knew we needed to be aggressive and hit spots,” Hansen said. She added the Golddiggers were able to do so.

Anna Campbell collected six attacking kills for Lead-Deadwood, and Raygan Mattson added three. Kailee Bertrand finished with a team-high nine set assists.

Blake Mehlberg’s efforts included 12 digs. Hannah Campbell and Anna Campbell finished with 10 digs apiece.

Natalie Janssen and Bertrand added one block apiece for Lead-Deadwood, whose final record was 18-12.

Hill City (28-3) advances to the class A SoDak 16 event, set for Nov. 12. 

Rapid City Christian defeated St. Thomas More 25-8, 25-23, 17-25, 25-22 in the other Region 8A tournament match. The Comets also advance to the SoDak 16 event.
