LEAD — Lead-Deadwood’s varsity volleyball team gained a three-games-to-two decision over Spearfish in a match played Tuesday night at the Lead-Deadwood High School gym, in Lead.
The home standing Golddiggers won the first game 25-23 before Spearfish claimed a 25-17 triumph in the second game. Spearfish prevailed 25-23 in the third game, but Lead-Deadwood won the fourth game 28-26 and the fifth game 15-13 to secure the match.
“The biggest thing for us is, we couldn’t keep getting continuous points,” Spearfish head coach Christine Skoglund said. “Then, we kind of sat back rather than being the aggressors and taking the authority and taking the lead.”
Lead-Deadwood head coach Kim Hansen agreed the team’s senior leadership enabled the team to prevail.
“You could really see our side of the court be confident in that set five,” Hansen said. “I was so excited for those girls to be able to come out and win set five like that.”
