STURGIS — The seventh annual Brandon Delzer Memorial Youth Wrestling tournament drew a huge crowd on Saturday to the West gym in Sturgis.  

This years tournament featured 561 wrestlers from four states, 40 teams, 1,423 matches and 65 brackets. 

“This tournament is in honor of Brandon Delzer and gives the local wrestlers experience on the mat and this is one of the largest tournaments on the western side of South Dakota,” said Hondi Dunn, event coordinator.  “With wrestlers from four states, many of the athletes come here to see some good competition.”  

The Custer wrestling team won the team sportsmanship award in memory of Don Voorhees and Sutton Paris was recognized for the top pinner in memory of Brandon Delzer.  

Jason Schlichtemeier was presented the ‘Spirit of Wrestling Award’ in memory of Albert Duprel.
