BELLE FOURCHE — Belle Fourche’s varsity volleyball team earned a three-games-to-zero sweep of Red Cloud, Thursday evening, at Edwin Petranek Armory in Belle Fourche. Scores were 25-15, 25-7, and 28-26.
“In the first two sets, our serving was very important,” Broncs’ head coach Loree Schlichtemeier said. “In the third one, we kind of missed some serves and weren’t aggressive on our side of the court.”
Belle Fourche led 12-8 in the first game before Elena Wolf served a pair of aces to extend the Broncs’ advantage to 14-8.
The Broncs gained side out and a 15-9 lead. Alexis Cherveny recorded three consecutive attacking kills as Belle Fourche went ahead 18-9.
A Taryn Stedillie serving ace gave the Broncs a 23-13 cushion en route to the 25-15 win.
Belle Fourche gained side out in the second game for a 1-0 edge. Cherveny served four aces to highlight a run putting the Broncs ahead 7-0 and forcing Red Cloud to call time out.
Hayley Wilbur’s attacking kill and Cherveny’s serving ace helped Belle Fourche open an 11-0 lead.
An attacking kill by Amity Middleton gave the Broncs side out and a 17-4 advantage. She served three aces as part of a six-point run that pushed Belle Fourche’s lead to 23-4 en route to the 25-7 victory.
Stedillie served an ace during the third game as Belle Fourche went ahead 11-6. Red Cloud edged ahead 13-12, but Wilbur’s attack- ing kill gave the Broncs side out and a 13-13 tie.
Wilbur recorded a block to put the Broncs ahead 23-21. Kaylin Garza added an attacking kill as Belle Fourche went ahead 26-25.
Red Cloud tied matters at 26 before the Broncs gained side out and scored the next point for the 28-26 game win and 3-0 match victory.
“They’re scrappy and pick up lots of things,” Schlichtemeier said of the visiting Crusaders in the third game. “They caught us on some balls out of position.”
