BELLE FOURCHE — Belle Fourche and Sturgis ended Thursday’s varsity girls’ soccer game at Belle Fourche the same way it began: in a scoreless tie.
“They did an excellent job tonight,” Belle Fourche head coach Rob Creed said of his team’s defense and goalkeeping. He added the Broncs’ ball moving was excellent during the first half, and there was a little bit of panic during the second half.
Sturgis and Belle Fourche combined for a handful of shots in the first half.
The visiting Scoopers launched a shot with 27 1/2 minutes remaining in the game. Belle Fourche goalkeeper Sydney Bridge leaped toward the ball, which deflected off her outstretched hand and over the goal, keeping the game scoreless.
Sturgis had a flurry of activity in front of the goal with nine minutes left but could not score. A similar situation with two minutes to go resulted in the same scoreless scenario.
Creed said the Scoopers also played really good defense, with their goalkeeper (Morgan Jost) turning in an excellent game. “We just missed on our opportunities, that’s all,” Creed added.
