SPEARFISH — The Spearfish Fire Department held it’s annual open house at Station No.1 Tuesday.

“It’s all part of fire prevention week,” Assistant Chief Rob Mathis said. “It was supposed to happen last week but the weather didn’t cooperate.”

The event featured a child-sized firefighter training obstacle course; fire hose target practice, fire extinguisher training, fire truck rides, food, and door prizes.

“Annually we open up the doors and say, ‘come on in and talk to the guys and we’ll discuss various issues with you and show you the apparatus’ that you’re paying for,’” he said. “More or less it’s a thank you to the community.”
