SPEARFISH — Updated fees at the Spearfish City Campground and rec center will become effective Jan. 3, following the city council’s Monday approval of a fee resolution.

“These are a number of fee changes for the campground Rally rates, for all types, whether it be tent, non-hookup, or full hookup sites,” City Finance Officer Dave Dutton explained. “It was found that we needed to adjust those rates, and we are switching them from a per-person rate to a per-site rate. This just simplifies it greatly for the campground staff … I know (Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Superintendent) Tyler Ehnes did a lot of calculation based upon the history to determine what the average number of individuals were in those different types of sites and came up with these rates. He’s confident that this is a good match. He also did surveys of other campgrounds in our area to verify that we are in-line.”

The Rally rates for full hookup sites, per night, which used to be $30 per person, are now $100 per site; Rally non-hookup sites per night, which were $25 per person, are now $50 per site; and Rally tent sites, per night, which were $21 per person, are now $40 per site.

In addition to the campground fees, the resolution updates fees at the Spearfish Recreation and Aquatics Center. Dutton explained that two new fees, which have been collected but have never been officially added to a fee resolution, include the $650 fee to advertise on a banner in the gym for one year and the $1,000 fee to advertise on a banner in the gym for two years.

“There’s just cost-of-living increases on a lot of the fees,” Dutton said. “There’s some other fees that have been combined, and there are a few fees that are being discontinued because those services or events are no longer being done at the rec center or offered.”

Annual adult rec membership increase from $267.50 to $280.88; annual couple membership increases from $390 to $409.50; annual family membership increases from $654 to $686.70; annual senior/youth membership increases from $210 to $220.50; and annual senior/youth couple membership increases from $313 to $328.65. Monthly and quarterly membership fees also show changes, as well as certain waterpark fees, such as a new fee of $2 for children 3 years of age and younger.

Fees removed due to discontinuation of activity include events like Ninja Night, ballroom dance, and rec guide ads, and there is also a list of fees removed due to duplication within previous resolutions.

The council unanimously approved the resolution, which would become effective Jan. 3.
