NEWELL — A futurity bronc match, rodeo, parade, tractor pull, quilt show and street dance are among the activities scheduled at the Newell Labor Day Celebration.
“It’s an inexpensive last of summer celebration. We have a lot packed into four days,” said Denna Lindsey, Newell Community Club member.
Festivities kick off Friday with the second Newell Futurity Bronc Match. It is open to all stock contractors and saddle bronc riding cowboys, and begins at 3 p.m. with the colts followed by the broncs.
Some of the contestants expected include J.D. Anderson, Kyler Carmichael, Kash Deal, Cole Pateneaude, Lane Schuelke, Taygen Schuelke, Wyatt Schuelke, Rowdy Thompson, and Trampus Thompson.
Stock contractors expected include Bailey Pro Rodeo - Shane Gunderson; C & T Rodeo – Carlyle and Tooke; Heading Rodeo – Stan Heading; J Heart Broncs – Miles Vondra; Kling Rodeo – Russ Kling; Lesmeister Bucking Horses – Lance; Longbrake Rodeo – Bud Longbrake; Schmidt Rodeo – Cleve and Clete Schmidt; Soap Creek Buckers – James Realbird; and UU Livestock — Jim Orhood.
During a regular bronc riding, stock contractors are paid each time their horses are bucked while the cowboys pay entry fees to get on broncs. During a futurity bronc match, stock contractors pay entry fees for each horse that is bucked, just like the cowboys.
The event is sanctioned by the World Futurity Association.

Lindsey said there are nine teams already signed up for the ranch rodeo.
