LEAD — The 2nd annual Mini Miner’s Toy Drive is underway at Gold Mine Pizzeria in Lead.
For the last week or so, owner Jordan Sewell has been collecting donations and toys to give the youth at the Boys and Girls Club in the Lead area the best Christmas possible.
During the toy drive’s inaugural event last year, the goal to raise was $500, and approximately $1,400 was raised.
“Last year, it was incredible. I mean, it blew everyone out of the water, and even me. It was just really, really wild how much generosity this town really gave to a cause worthwhile,” Sewell said. “They just need avenues, I think that’s a huge thing is I had some donors that gave generously … I feel like if they had other avenues that they believed in, they would give more and keep giving.”
This year, the goal is $1,000.
The community is invited to come and help wrap these gifts at 4 p.m. on Monday, for a wrapping party. Wrappers will be treated to free pizza and live music played by Steve Thorpe.
The gifts will be distributed by Santa to the Boys and Girls Club at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 19 at the Handley Recreation Center.
“(Last year) the Boys and Girls Club knocked it out of the park on their side, they really did. They brought it together, and we had about, I think, 400 toys or something. Each kid had more toys than they could carry. It was really fun, they had stocking stuffers and all that,” Sewell said.
Cash and toy donations are welcome and 100% of the proceeds will be allocated to the toy drive.
