SPEARFISH — Open to both golfers and the public, the Miller Creek Pub and Patio on the Elkhorn Ridge Golf Club at 6845 St. Onge Rd. in Spearfish is set to open Friday.

“We’re pretty excited about it,” Jed Griffith, pub manager, said Monday.

The website describes that patrons can enjoy “beer, appetizers, and an outdoor fireplace after your golf round! Miller Creek Pub will be a three-season dining experience, perfect for enjoying the views of Elkhorn Peak and breathing in the fresh air of the Black Hills.”

The Miller Creek Pub is located south of the course clubhouse.

“It’s definitely a full-service building for people who want access to a golf course and just want to enjoy the Black Hills,” Griffith said, describing that there’s around 20-30 items on the menu, in terms of food selection, as well as a full beer and wine bar.

“There’s a spot for people that they can chip, and putt, and practice golf on one side of the building, and then on the other side of the building, there’s a place to play the driving range. It’s just a really cool place to hang out,” Griffith said.

He described that the pub will operate within the range of the golf club’s hours of operation, opening on the weekday mornings around 7 a.m., and on the weekends, closer to 6 a.m., and stay open until about sundown.

“It’ll kind of just run by the sundial,” Griffith said.

“It is extremely encouraging to see all the new dining and entertainment establishments joining our existing Spearfish hospitality base,” Kory Menken, Spearfish Economic Development Corporation executive director, said. “Businesses of this nature elevate the quality of life for our residents, help attract additional visitors to our community, and are essential to new business and talent recruitment.”

Griffith said that the pub would employ a staff of five to 10 starting out.

“We’re very excited to get things going,” Griffith said, inviting people to stop in to check out the Miller Creek Pub and Patio.

Elkhorn Ridge was annexed and rezoned from agriculture to development review district in the early 2000s. The current clubhouse was built in 2008-09, with golf course initially offering nine holes when it opened in 2009. In 2014, the course announced its plans to expand to a full 18-hole course. Its website states, “This challenging 18 hole layout affords over 285 feet of elevation change, hidden canyons, elevated tees, and broad sloping greens. All levels of players can enjoy five different teeing areas on each of the nine holes. Play 18 holes from the ‘tips’ and Elkhorn Ridge Golf Club stretches over 7,200 yards and is rated at 74.6 from the Championship Tees. Enjoy Elkhorn’s practice facilities featuring double-ended driving range, multiple target greens, and green-side practice bunker allowing for all types of short-game practice.”
