SPEARFISH — Those in the market for new furniture, flooring, hot tubs, and more can find HomeSource Furniture & Floors at a new location in Spearfish: 2535 E. Colorado Blvd.

“People really like it. It’s so nice. It’s open,” Timothy Baldwin, who owns the business with his wife, Mary Beth, said of the new location, which opened in May after making the move from the previous location on 12th Street.

The Baldwins purchased the business, which was previously O’Neills Furniture and Carpet, in 2014 from Danny O’Neill, renaming it HomeSource Furniture & Floors. The business carries dining room, living room, office, bedroom, and outdoor furniture; mattresses; all kinds of flooring from wood to vinyl to tile to carpet and beyond; hot tubs and spas; accessories; and more.

Baldwin explained that he had his eye on the new space, which last housed Bomgaars before that business moved into the former Kmart space, for some time prior to the move. The new space is 28,500 square feet, with a small warehouse, and Baldwin said it provides approximately a third more space. Another big plus is that it is all on one level – saving the employees multiple daily trips up and down the stairs that were necessary at the previous location, he said.

“It’s really nice. We’ve been able to expand our offerings, our product lines,” Baldwin said, explaining that the visibility of the new location is also a plus, being along Colorado Boulevard near Exit 14. There is also expanded parking availability.

Baldwin said that because of a liquidation/moving sale the business held prior to the move, there wasn’t a lot of furniture to move into the new space. Getting the rolls of carpet out of the basement was the hardest part of the move, he said – and since there wasn’t a lot of furniture to move, that meant there were truckloads of new merchandise to unload, unpack, and put into inventory.

Baldwin joked that for the first month in the new location, he wasn’t sure if anything on the floor was tagged, since they were juggling setting up the space, doing data entry for the new products, etc.

“There was a lot of long days in May, and April probably even, too,” he said.

Baldwin described that he has heard many positive comments from customers entering the doors.

“The nicest comment I think I got is, ‘Wow – this is a real furniture store,’” he said.

In addition to being a full-service furniture and flooring store, HomeSource Furniture & Floors is now also carrying hot tubs, spas, and patio furniture, having space to display these items.

“If you’re building a house, we can literally almost take care of you from furnishing the floor, the furniture, putting that hot tub in the back for you, and doing all of it,” he said.

The business is also building a new website, and Baldwin said the plan is to offer some e-commerce in the future.

HomeSource Furniture & Floors is currently open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and Baldwin said that if someone needs an appointment on a Sunday, the staff would likely be able to accommodate them. The business currently employs six staff members, Baldwin said.

“It’s just been a great move for us,” he said of the new location.
