SPEARFISH — Dakota Electric has a new home in the Hills: 3217 W. Fairgrounds Loop, Unit #1, in the Exit 8 Industrial Park in Spearfish.

“We just needed a little bigger area to accommodate all the guys. We’re slowly growing,” owner Brent Olson said, explaining that he plans to add more employees and continue to grow over the years.

“We are delighted that yet another growing company has chosen to relocate and expand in Spearfish,” Kory Menken, executive director of Spearfish Economic Development Corporation, said. “Small business is the backbone of our local economy. The continued growth and diversity of Spearfish’s commercial and industrial base is a strong indicator that our community is moving in a positive direction.”

Previously located in Saint Onge, Dakota Electric has been in business for 14 years, providing electrical services in South Dakota, Wyoming, and North Dakota. It opened in its new location on Fairground Loop on June 1.

“We’re an electrical contractor,” Olson explained. “We do anything from basic service work to wiring new houses, commercial buildings; we do trenching, locating, ranch/farm work; we do pretty much everything except heavy industrial work.”

There are currently 10 employees at Dakota Electric, and the new space offers two work bays as well as office space, and customers are welcome to stop in to pay their bill, schedule appointments, etc.

Olson said that he is most looking forward to the new space allowing the staff to be more efficient.

“Organization is key to great success, especially in an industry like this,” he said.

“We are just looking forward to continuing to serve the Northern Black Hills area and beyond,” Olson said.
