Belle Fourche Mayor Randy Schmidt proclaimed Oct. 3, 2022 as World Habitat Day. He backed up his proclamation saying more than 100,000 individuals live below the poverty line in South Dakota, and more than 3,500 affordable homes are needed in the Black Hills area. He encouraged all Belle Fourche citizens to work towards the elimination of inadequate housing.
