STURGIS — The Saving Grace Relay for Life team, hosted their annual fundraiser, “Sweets for Sweethearts,” Feb. 10 at Grace Lutheran Church.

Team members worked several days making chocolate dipped strawberries, fudge, cupcakes, and many more delicious treats for the annual fundraiser.

“We especially enjoy this fundraiser that will help local people with their battle against cancer,” said Lynette Kvanvig, Saving Grace treasurer. “I really appreciate the continuing support for the past 14years.

This year’s Relay for Life theme is “No place like hope,” and the 12 members of Saving Grace have a goal to raise $3,000.

“We have a camaraderie here in our church relay for life group, and everyone pitched in to make these treats for the fundraising event,” said Ed Pickar, team member. “Almost every family has had a situation involving cancer, and it is good to see so many buying treats in honor of or memory of a family member or friend.”

Pickar, and his wife, Ranae, have been involved for the past eight years with Saving Grace Relay for Life team.

“It just so happens that this past year, I became a survivor, so this kind of strikes home for me, and being involved brings a lot of special meaning,” Ed Pickar said.

The funds raised will be given to the American Cancer Society during the annual Meade County Relay for Life event on June 29 at the Woodland Park shelter in Sturgis.
