BELLE FOURCHE — South Dakota Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense (DoD) program, announced that the manager of the Lueders Food Center was honored with a Patriot Award in recognition of extraordinary support of his service member employee. Dave Kutz was presented with Patriot Award recognition with several employees and customers present.

The Patriot Award, created by ESGR, publicly recognizes individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who, like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve.

Kutz was nominated for being highly supportive of his employee, Pvt. Allan Guinard, a current member of 842nd Army National Guard unit and a five-year member of the Guard.

Guinard nominated Kutz because “he was very supportive when I provide short notice of drills that are occurring or arriving home after late drills. Kutz looks positively on the Guard and what we do in our second career.”

When asked why he hires Guard personal, Kutz noted, “These employees are very honest and productive due to their military training.”

ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD.
