Local students selected for SD Middle School All State Orchestra

SPEARFISH — The South Dakota Music Education Association will present Middle School All State Orchestra, taking place at the Mitchell Performing Arts Center (Mitchell, SD) on Feb. 22-23, featuring Dakota Wesleyan University’s Bethany Amundson as conductor.

Spearfish is proud to announce the following middle school string students accepted to the orchestra: Kate Heine, eighth-grade violin; Jadon Olsson, eighth-grade viola and Alison Kennedy, sixth-grade violin. These students study with Mary Pochop, strings teacher and director of the Dakota Youth Orchestra in Spearfish. 

SDMEA is proud to bring the Middle School All State Orchestra to Mitchell for the first time.  The Middle School All State Orchestra event is in conjunction with the J. Laiten Weed Honors Orchestra and the SDMEA String Symposium where string teachers from across the state join for continuing education.  

The public is invited to attend the Grand Finale concert in the Mitchell Performing Arts Center at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23. Admission is $5 per adult, students are free, and tickets may be purchased at the door.
