BHSU photo student receives international recognition

Posted: Tuesday, October 2, 2012 11:30 am

Rianna Hotz, a junior at Black Hills State University, had one of her photographs accepted into the Breaking Binderies IV exhibition in Pingyao, China, and it will be on display at the 12th annual China International and Photography Festival. This show attracts upwards of 100,000 visitors from all over the world and Hotz said she was incredibly surprised and excited when she heard the news of her acceptance. The Hot Springs native advised her fellow classmates to enter whatever contests are available because you never know when someone will appreciate your work. Upon graduation, Hotz said she would like to start a career, keep up with her photography and hopefully own her own studio and darkroom. Photo by Rianna Hotz

"... rich photography tradition on campus..."

I'm in full agreement with Black Hills Spirit. Mr. Phillips' skillfully taught lessons and expectations for high standards are with me every day. Success by today's students makes me even more proud to have been part of his program more than four decades ago. Best wishes to everyone. Carry his legacy forward!

[smile]As a former BH Journalism student, I was not surprised by the selection of a BH student's entry in this photo contest. There is a rich photography tradition on campus, beginning back when Ron Phillips headed up the department. He instilled a deep appreciation for the art and a genuine call for perfection in all he touched. Congratulations to you and to Black Hills State University!
