Fourth of July events in the Northern Black Hills

NORTHERN HILLS — It's Independence Day and area communities have planned several events geared toward family fun. The following is a list of events scheduled for Monday, July 4 in the Northern Black Hills.

Spearfish

1 p.m. — Fourth of July parade starts at Donald E. Young Center parking lot, heading toward Spearfish City Park

Following parade - Ice cream social at Spearfish City Park

3 p.m. — Groundbreaking ceremony for Spearfish Veterans Monument at Indian Springs, across from Spearfish City Park

Lead

Dusk, July 4 — Fireworks over the Open Cut

4 p.m., July 4 — Fourth of July Parade in Lead

Deadwood

3 p.m., July 4 — Fourth of July Parade in Deadwood

Belle Fourche

 Dusk, July 3 — Fireworks Display at Black Hills Roundup Grounds in Belle Fourche.

 10:30 a.m., July 4 — Fourth of July Parade in Belle Fourche

 NorthStar Amusement Carnival opens downtown Belle Fourche

 2 p.m., July 4 — B-1 Flyover during Black Hills Roundup's PRCA Rodeo performance at Black Hills Roundup Grounds.

Whitewood

Residents may discharge fireworks Saturday through Monday between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. Fireworks are available in Howdy's lot in north Whitewood.

Fireworks may be discharged only inside the fenced area of the Memorial Park ball field.

Children aged 15 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian when discharging fireworks.

Whitewood City Finance Officer Cory Heckenlaible said everyone must assist with clean-up efforts after the lights are switched on.

Police will patrol the area looking for unsupervised youth. Whitewood Fire Department members will also look for any unsafe conditions.
