LEAD — The petition to terminate city funding to the Handley Center is valid, and the Lead City Commission will set an election date on Monday.
Lead City Administrator Mike Stahl said the petition contained 104 valid signatures. State law requires that initiatives have signatures from at least 5 percent of the registered voters within the municipality — 103 in the city of Lead.
Stahl said it is likely the commission will schedule a special election for the issue, since the next municipal election will not be held until April.
Lead resident Glorianne Davis presented the petition to the Lead City Commission during the regular meeting on Monday. It calls for a city ordinance that states “that all municipal funding of the Handley Recreation Center be terminated.”
