‘Pies for Play’ fundraiser Saturday in Spearfish

SPEARFISH — The 2015 Leadership Spearfish class will host a fundraising event Saturday, called “Pies for Play,” to raise money for the Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation’s mission to build a local, all-inclusive playground for children of all abilities.

The community is invited to “Pies for Play” from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday at Crow Peak Brewery in Spearfish. The evening will include a live pie auction, a taco and nacho bar for $10, and pie by the slice, for $5. Local musician Heath Johnson will provide entertainment during the event, and all proceeds from the event will benefit the Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation, a local, nonprofit named in honhonor of Kenadi Jean Weis, who suffered an anoxic brain injury at birth and passed away at the age of 5 in 2014.

“Our goal is to raise not only funds, but awareness for the foundation, in the hopes we can help them get a little closer to their goal of building an all-inclusive playground for the community,” Steve Iverson, 2015 Leadership Spearfish graduate, said. “We wanted to find a unique way for our project to serve the community that we all call home. And this is an excellent opportunity to do just that.”

“The Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation is extremely humbled and grateful that the Leadership Spearfish Class of 2015 chose to promote our efforts to one day build the memorable Kenadi Jean Playground destination here in Spearfish as their class project,” Lori Deibert, board member, said. “We continue to research land availability, explore all-inclusive design and equipment, and investigate population studies and needs in our area. In Kenadi’s honor, it is the foundation’s grandest wish to create a world where all children and adults of all abilities can play together side-by-side. We are thankful to the community of Spearfish and its leaders for their continued support.”
