SPEARFISH — A final inspection performed on Mountain View Elementary school Friday morning found the building “ready for occupants,” said Bob Chase, superintendent of Rapid City’s SECO Construction, the projects primary contractor.

The building, formerly a section of East Elementary, was selected in December 2012 to house the Spearfish School District’s kindergarten program after the district had experienced steady growth in incoming kindergarten students.

The Spearfish School District renamed the building Mountain View Elementary in January, when West Elementary had 175 students in nine kindergarten sections. Construction crews have been working steadily on a $2 million renovation of the building since then.

Chase added that a second contract of the renovation, which included a playground, flooring and miscellaneous cabinetry, was on track to finish construction in the middle of August.
